About the Work

The paintings displayed are a series of painted street signs and vinyl records depicting nature and wildlife in the Monterey Bay area. My individual and aesthetic exploration in these paintings were to indulge in the wildlife we have in the Monterey Bay area. Including the ability to develop a visual language of identifying my favorite views and species around me. I wanted to shed some light on the wildlife that is around Monterey and how we tend not to yield to wildlife and the land we share with them.

Through my ability to articulate the origin of paintings as my studio practice, I am able to identify patterns and connectivity from diverse cultural perspectives, from the signs and vinyls I gathered in the Monterey Bay Area where I have resided in for the past four years. Having the production skills of painting I have the ability to demonstrate and apply learned studio-based skills of painting wildlife and nature in an aesthetic way.

Through creating, designing, organizing, and managing the skills I have obtain in paint I have put my own twist on painting realistic scenery and species in my area of residency. My concept of my surroundings have lead me to assess, evaluate, and interpret materials. The repetition of the canvases I'm using being the recycled street signs and vinyl records is  distribution skills. By having my peers and the community interpret my paintings that they have seen in there everyday life it will create an experience that will generate feedback. Having the repetition on the same material to paintings I have had the ability to present artwork in the context of distribution and audience relevance. Overall I had a an immersive experience in the area I live in and discovered new places and wildlife in the Monterey Bay Area.
